Meet Kirk Brown
Kirk Brown is one of the few artistes from Barbados who can boast of having shared a stage with international superstars like Barbadian Rihanna, Ne-Yo and J Cole.
It is not surprising, since he is considered to be among the brightest stars in the Caribbean. The multi-talented Barbadian is an award-winning singer, music producer, deejay, model and businessman.
It all makes for a hectic lifestyle he plans to maintain.
“I’m currently working on a number of international collaborations and a film in 2013,” he told Totally Barbados.
Kirk’s journey as an artiste began with musical and vocal training throughout his youth. It was in 2004 though that he really took to the stage, as the vocalist for a number of local bands, like ‘4 D People‘ and ‘Blaze‘.
By the end of that year Kirk had his own group ‘Strategy The Energy Band‘, which quickly became one of the hottest and most dynamic acts in the region.
Two years later, in 2006, he founded the multifaceted entertainment company, Good Vybz Incorporated, which deals with live and studio music, marketing and artist management.
Even with that additional responsibility, Kirk continued to make waves as a solo artiste. His contribution to the musical landscape was recognised by several Barbados Music Awards nominations, starting from its inception in 2006.
In 2009 and 2010 Kirk was more than just a nominee. For those two consecutive years, despite being up against several renowned artistes, he actually won the BMA’s Music Video of the year (Male).
In 2011, perhaps in recognition that Kirk was at the top of his game, he hosted the BMA with the beautiful actress Vivica Fox.
In addition to sharing the spotlight on stage with big names such as Rihanna, Neyo and J Cole, Kirk has performed with artistes such as Shaggy, Sean Paul, Trey Songz, Gyptian, Beenie Man, Maxi Priest and a host of others.
Kirk has also made his mark as a model. In 2009 he was on the catwalk at the ACT Fashion Weekend in Barbados alongside Mckey Sullivan, the winner of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 11.
In 2012, Kirk was kept busy with regular performances on the night club circuit. He was also among the headliners for a major concert organised by the CHUM FM Breakfast in Barbados 2012 show, which is hosted by Roger Ashby, Darren B. Lamb, Marilyn Denis from Canada.
The CHUM FM Breakfast in Barbados 2012 concert was held at Holders House in St. James and also featured special guests Nelly Furtado and K’Naan.
His performance with his band Strategy during the Taste of Oistins show held at the Prime Minister’s residence as part of the Foromic conference has also opened up new opportunities. Many of the Latin American delegates were impressed enough to get in touch afterwards and book the band.
It should be an easy adjustment for Kirk who also speaks Spanish, along with French, Chinese, German, Danish, Swedish and Italian.
Of course Barbados has not been the only place where Kirk has been onstage in 2012. He travels every week for gigs in other Caribbean countries, in addition to performing at shows in New York, Miami, France and London.
As a Deejay, Kirk is perhaps best known as the on air personality for the morning show on the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation’s radio station 98 The One.
“I love to DJ and I’m glad to have the opportunity with 98 The One.
I’m currently revamping the show to make it more interactive and high energy and I wish to thank CBC for the opportunity,” he said.
There is also Kirk the entrepreneur, whose latest venture is De Gear Spot in St. Lawrence Gap, Christ Church. The store offers the latest outfits, accessories and electronics.
Through his music and business interests Kirk Brown continues to build a reputation as a talented, hardworking and ambition young man who is determined to be a success story.
