Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Kelly Clarkson achieved international superstardom after winning the first season of American Idol in 2002. By 2003, her first album entitled Thankful had gone double platinum. By 2004, Clarkson’s second album Breakaway had gone six times platinum in the U.S. and five times platinum in Canada.
Since then, she has released her third album, My December – which also went platinum. Her new single My Life Would Suck Without You, which CHUM FM world premiered this week, is from the album All I Ever Wanted and releases on March 17, 2009.
In 2008 singer Katy Perry burst onto the music scene with her hit songs I Kissed a Girl, Hot, And Cold, and Thinking Of You off her debut album One of the Boys. Since then, Blender Magazine has called her “The Next Big Thing,” and Teen People dubbed her “One to Watch.” Perry, the daughter of two pastors, grew up on a strict diet of church music until the day she put on a Queen record and was inspired by their flamboyant lyrics.
At 17, Perry met legendary producer and songwriter Glen Ballard, who spent years guiding and developing her career. The strength of the songs and Perry’s big voice captured the attention of then-Chairman & CEO of Capitol Music Group Jason Flom, who signed her in Spring 2007.
Simple Plan broke onto the music scene in 2002 with its quadruple-platinum debut album, No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls (Lava/Atlantic), which featured the radio hit singles “I’m Just a Kid,” “I’d Do Anything,” “Addicted,” and “Perfect.” The band followed its debut by recording two studio albums, a live album, a DVD and selling more than seven million units worldwide, all while playing thousands of shows on five continents.
The band also has won a slew of awards, including five MuchMusic Video Awards for People’s Choice Favorite Canadian Band. Their current album, the self-titled Simple Plan, features the hit singles “When I’m Gone,” “Your Love Is a Lie,” and “Save You” and has already surpassed platinum certification in Canada.
