Volleyball in Barbados
Volleyball is one of the most exciting sports in Barbados and its popularity continues to grow.
The Barbados Volleyball Association is the organising body and through its efforts the sport has been promoted, especially in schools. The BVA offers a national championship for both men’s and women’s teams and the number of teams playing continues to grow with several schools participating.
The quality of performance among the volleyball players has improved rapidly over the years and this is reflected in the national teams’ excellent showing against top class competition. Barbados has won the Caribbean volleyball Championship on several occasions both among the men and the women.
Teams from this island have also performed creditably on the Pan American circuit defeating some of the best teams from Latin America.
The growing popularity of this sport has resulted in large crowds flocking to the Wildey Gymnasium at the Garfield Sobers Complex whenever there’s a regional or international competition taking place.
