Barbados Vacations for the Family on the Sea
Barbados is a family oriented destination and there are many attractions on water, which support family activity.
One of the top tourist attractions is aboard the Barbados Black Pearl Party Cruises – Jolly Roger 1.
You can also choose to go fishing with Legacy Fishing Charters in Barbados. All tackle and bait are supplied.
High Tide Water Sports – High Tide Water Sports is located at Coral Reef Club in St. James on the West Coast of the island.
Willie Hewitt, the Managing Director, is a firm supporter of the environment and activities that are not only fun but also increase environmental awareness.
While High Tide offers a full range of water sports activities, they are also committed to conservation of the sea turtles, which inhabit our waters. Ask about their Turtle Tagging Dives. This is an experience to remember.
Burkie’s Surf School – Some say surfing is the next best thing to flying. Alan Burke, Managing Director of Burkie’s Surf School has been surfing the waves the world over for years and is a Barbados International Champion.
Alan respects the sea and while enthusiastic, he is renown for his teaching skills. In a nutshell, if you want to learn to surf, Alan Burke is the person to teach you.
Ocean Adventures – Ocean Adventures understands the challenges of snorkeling and the fears of some for diving. With this in mind they now offer Snuba.
Snuba allows you to breath while under water from a 20 ft long airline that is connected to a tank on a nearby boat. You can either stay at the surface, mid-water or even swim down to the bottom of the sea.
Ocean Adventures also offers a very special day where you are taken by a powerboat to a secret turtle place, where you can snorkel with them.
Also included in this magical day is kayaking, a ride on a banana boat, waver runner or a patriot ride (which is a raft pulled by a speed boat). A delicious lunch and ice cold drinks are waiting for you after you adventure under the sea.
The Atlantis Submarine offers the adventure of a lifetime to children. Initially, the submarine dives to a depth of approximately 55 feet where marine life is abundant. An experienced guide describes the types of fish and coral being viewed.
The submarine then ventures much deeper to 115 – 150 feet and grants viewers the opportunity to witness ‘life beneath the sea’ without having to put on scuba gear.
The sea life seen during the day is very different to that seen at night. Both trips can only be described as awesome as humans are invited to view ‘a whole new world’ and explore a sunken shipwreck.
Atlantis has also expanded their adventure to include The Rhino Rider Water Safari. These two passenger motorized vessels encourage the spirit of adventure as they fly across the surface of the ocean. Snorkeling stops are included to make this a truly remarkable excursion.
It doesn’t stop there, Atlantis has thought of everything a child would love to do. The Atlantis Power Snorkel Adventure allows children to venture beneath and view shipwrecks by holding onto a power “scooter”. A once in a lifetime experience for the young and young at heart!
