Barbados Fishing Vacations
Deep-sea fishing is a popular sport in Barbados and there are several sport fishing boats that are available for half-day and full-day deep-sea fishing charters. Most of these vessels are fully equipped with professional equipment for your fishing excursions.
Dolphin (Dorado/Mahi-Mahi), Blue and White Marlin, Barracuda, Bonita, Sail Fish, King Fish (Wahoo) and Yellow Fin Tuna are frequent catches amongst fisherman. Not all charter boats allow you to keep the fish you catch. Should you wish to keep some, ensure you check on the boat’s respective policy prior to booking.
Most of the Fishing Tournaments are held between February and April, although there are three, one-day events in November and December called the Wahoo Tournament. Tournaments include spin fishing, deep-sea fishing, and inshore fishing – attracting the participation of anglers from South America, North America the United Kingdom and Europe. The annual Sagicor/Mount Gay Rum International Tournament is the most popular tournament of the year and runs from 26th April until 30th April.
The Oistins Fish Festival is held in Oistins, which is situated on the south coast of the island. The festival pays tribute to all those involved in the fishing industry. Food and craft Stalls line the street, calypso music fills the air and various competitions are held for both locals and visitors alike. For example the Fish Deboning Competition and the Grease-Pole Competition!!
