Traveler Review 2006 – Meilka and Heidi Horst
We spoke to Meilka & Heidi Horst who are currently on holiday here in Barbados from Germany. They are here to visit their son who lives on the island.
This is their sixth visit to Barbados, and they are frequent travellers around the Caribbean region. They have been to Martinique, St. Lucia, St, Vincent, Mustique, Antigua and Grenada.
When asked to compare Barbados to the other islands they have visited in the region, they said it is just different in both scenery and culture. They do feel Barbados is more expensive than some of the other islands, but not excessively so.
Casting their mind back to their first visit to Barbados, they remembered that it met with their expectations and was just as they imagined it would be.
When they visit Barbados they usually rent a self-catering apartment, which gives them the freedom to come and go as they please and spend time with their adult son. They are very pleased with this year’s choice of apartment, as it is located near to Accra beach.
Their favourite beach in Barbados is Miami Beach, located on the south coast of the island in the parish of Christ Church.
They usually hire a car whilst on the island so they can go off exploring and often go to the Flower Forest, which they fine very beautiful and tranquil.
They find the Bajan people to be very friendly and helpful.
Being in a self-catering apartment they get the opportunity to dine out quite often and rate Harlequin as their favourite restaurant, where the food is excellent and the service superb.
They enjoy snorkelling and swimming, so Barbados and its clear calm waters are ideal for both of these pastimes.
For a great day out they recommend the Atlantis Submarine, which submerges you underwater so you can see underwater Barbados without getting wet!
By night they have partyied at the Ship Inn, which they say was great fun.
Overall their best experience whilst in Barbados was a day out sailing on a Catamaran, where they got to enjoy swimming with turtles and snorkelling.
Meilka and Heidi will of course be back to see their son next year and enjoy more of their favourite adventures in Barbados.
