Traveler Review 2006 – Violet Rowan from Huddersfieldin the UK
We spoke to Violet Rowan who is currently on holiday here in Barbados from Huddersfield in the UK. She is here with her husband Paul, three children Scott, Sean and Nathalie and two friends Hannah and Brenda.
It is their first trip to Barbados, and they have never been to the Caribbean region before. Therefore they were not sure what to expect but are very happy with what they have seen so far!
They arrived and were booked in to a holiday apartment in Silver Sands, which is on the south coast of Barbados. Whilst they were happy with the accommodation Violet felt it was too far too walk for a bus and they felt that they were not in the thick of the action, so they moved onto the South Coast Main Rd, into another self catering holiday apartment, which is very nice. Violet just wanted to point out that you should think about what amenities are close by when booking your accommodation especially if you have small children.
They spent some of their holiday crashing around in the waves at Silver Sands, which is renowned for sporting action if you are a windsurfer or kite surfer but on the whole the entire family has enjoyed the tranquillity of the waters and the powdery white sands of Accra beach.
Being a group of eight, transport can be a problem if they chose to hire a car or to book a taxi, so they are more than happy to jump on the local mini vans known as ZR’s. You pay $1.50BDS and can go anywhere on the route – for the south coast this is a number 11.
Violet said, “The bus system is so easy and they are so frequent, we can all jump on and jump off again, with no great expense!”
When asked how they had found the Bajan people, Violet and her family couldn’t sing their praises enough saying how friendly everyone was and how laid back the whole island is.
The family have been eating out at Bubba’s quite frequently as it is close to their apartment and is excellent for the children. The food is reasonably priced and Violet has been enjoying her evening cocktail of a Daiquiri!
For breakfast the family has been eating at Picasso’s and said the food is very good. Overall Violet and her family have found that all places serve big portions, they have received excellent service and all the food they have had has been good.
In terms of sightseeing they booked two taxi’s to take them on a full island tour and rated Harrison’s Cave as their best experience whilst here.
The highlight of their holiday was watching their favourite football team Manchester United win a game whilst in Bubba’s!
Violet and her family had never flown before and this was their first family holiday outside the UK and they couldn’t believe their eyes as they flew in to Barbados. Violet said, “The colour of the sea was awesome and when we saw the beaches we couldn’t believe we were really here in paradise!”
Violet said they will be definitely be returning to Barbados.
